Actor, director, teacher and writer, Nigel Rideout has been involved in professional theatre, film and television for the past 50 years in the UK, USA and Australia.
In 1981, Nigel was invited to create the now highly successful theatre department of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in Perth. Since then he has helped more than 500 alumni in theatre, musical theatre and broadcasting achieve success. Prior to WAAPA, Nigel was Director of Studies and Deputy Principal of the London Academy of Dramatic Art (LAMDA) for seven years. Since 1995 he has been Head of Theatre at the Central School of Speech and Drama and Head of Voice at the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London.
Returning to Australia in 2002, Nigel set up the official archives for WAAPA and continued to teach and direct there until he retired officially in 2009. After several teaching commitments and productions in Melbourne, he now divides his time between the UK and the beautiful Mosel Valley, Germany, where he continues to write and teach privately.
His two books can be found on his website: www.act1scene1.biz. First Steps towards an Acting Career with a Foreword by Dame Judi Dench. Training the Actors’ Voice with a Foreword by his ex-WAAPA graduate, Hugh Jackman.
